Talent Advisors – Cybersecurity Employee Part Time

Location: Remote

Professional Executive

Job Description:

Position Reports To: Head of Delivery

Kinetic Potential (KP) is a mission driven for profit organization, based in the Washington, DC area, that has a tremendous opportunity to expand its occupational skills training and community service offerings throughout the United States. The firm is preparing for significant growth and seeking Talent Advisors to instruct, coach, mentor and develop individuals for careers in Cybersecurity with KP or one of our KP Network Partners.

Background & Program Description
KP believes that success in a cybersecurity role comes from being able to apply the technical training and learned skills to real-life projects and programs. Training alone is insufficient to truly prepare participants for employment, especially in cybersecurity roles. At KP, we take a different approach from other training programs. To adequately prepare participants to take on the role and responsibilities of a cybersecurity consultant, we offer a threepart program:

  1. Training Certification - Asynchronous or Live Cybersecurity Training and CompTia exam preparation (A+, Network+, Security+)
  2. Experiential Learning – Application of acquired knowledge to a mini-project within KP or with simulation via cyber range.
  3. Career Management – Review of career opportunities within KP or a KP Network Partner

Our program is intended to not only prepare the participants for a career as a cybersecurity consultant, but to actually evaluate their potential for a part-time or full-time role as an employee with KP or one of our KP Network partners. Throughout their progress in the program, we will evaluate their aptitude, attitude and “fit” and the Talent Advisor will play a key role in this evaluation process

The Talent Advisor is a part-time employee role that is engaged with each new cohort of students much like an adjunct professor. The Talent Advisor schedules will be established based upon the class with some flexibility for office hours and meeting times with students. We anticipate Talent Advisors spending approximately 40 -60 hours per student cohort. Depending on program demand, multiple cohorts may be active at any given time.

  • Onboard all new student cohorts through the Training Certification program
  • Provide supporting instruction and real-world guidance with examples that align with KP’s existing project activities
  • Support the students during exam preparation by offering regular office hours
  • Respond to students’ questions via email Q&A
  • Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed and conveys a genuine energy and enthusiasm for their learning
  • Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based demonstrations
  • Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments
  • Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise in cybersecurity and help students connect concepts across their training program
  • Show initiative by identifying innovative methods to help unemployed adults successfully complete the training and experiential learning components of the program
  • Help the students understand that their performance in this training program will be evaluated as part of the decision-making process for potential employment with KP and/or KP Network Partners
  • Serve as a member of the KP project team, providing subject matter expertise and support to achieve the objectives of the mini-projects or simulation projects
  • Provide feedback to the KP Sponsor on possible curricular improvements and candidate evaluations

  • 10+ years of relevant cybersecurity experience, 5+ years in a supervisory capacity
  • Cybersecurity certifications: A+, Network+, Security+, CISSP Preferred
  • Excellent communication, organization, time-management, and leadership skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills for mentoring students and staff candidates
  • Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education is strongly preferred
  • Talent Advisors are scholar-practitioners: professionals who are actively and successfully engaged in their field who additionally wish to help the next generation of professionals grow in their knowledge and expertise through education
  • Demonstrated interest in helping unemployed adults develop new skills and secure meaningful employment
  • Multi-lingual skills (particularly Spanish) and the ability to translate for program materials is a plus
